City Plan 2040 Consultation

9 October 2026: The City of Edinburgh Council has a Call for Ideas for it’s City Plan 2040.

The plan will help guide development and set the direction for how places across the city will grow, change and be protected over the coming years. There is a Public Consultation open until 21st October 2026. Ideas submitted should focus on the use and development of land and buildings across Edinburgh.

JGHS Parent Council are in the process of developing a response, focusing on the JGHS Estate and surrounding area. Particularly in light of the current shortage of adequate space.

Here is a link to our draft response. If you have any further ideas, or any other comments, please email the Parent Council in the next week so we have time to incorporate this before submission.

Parent Council Annual General Meeting 7 October 2026

28 September 2026: The Annual General Meeting of the Parent Council is on Wednesday 7 October 2026 at 7 pm in the library at James Gillespie’s High School.

All parents and carers at the school are warmly invited to join the meeting.

Agenda

The meeting will (re)elect office bearers for the Parent Council, invite new general members to join, review PC activities over the past year, and hear an update on school activities from the Headteacher.

Upcoming meeting of Parent Council on Tuesday 1st September 2026

24 August 2026: The next meeting of the JGHS Parent Council will be on Tuesday 1st September at 7-8.30 pm on Teams. All parents and carers are warmly invited to attend. A joining link will be sent out via email to all parents before the meeting. It is not necessary to have Teams installed in order to join.

Updates from Locality Meetings, November 2023

30 November 2023: The ASN Mainstream Locality Meeting for City of Edinburgh Council and representatives from area Parent Councils, met on 16th November 2023.

SQA unit assessment and exam changes

Please see attached letter.docx from the Director of Qualifcations Development at the SQA outlining the impact of the removal of units and unit assessments. For each National 5 course, the changes have resulted in one or more of the following:

  • extension of the existing question paper
  • extension/modification of the existing item of coursework
  • a new question paper
  • a new item of coursework

Street party

City of Edinburgh Council has approved a pilot scheme which will allow residents to apply for up to five, free road closures. The closures will allow children to play and residents to socialise between 1 April to 31 August 2017 on streets free of vehicles. Residents can apply via the Council’s website at playing out.
